1.reisebrev 12.10.2010:

Hola, Amigos!  Greetings from sunny Mexico.
The trip is off to a great start.  The group met in Mexico City yesterday evening with no missing bags – a rare treat!  After sleeping off our jet lag, we woke up this morning to do a gear check, explore the city, and transfer to Amecameca, where we’re enjoying the local cuisine.
Our hotel in Amecameca has beautiful views of the mountains, and is located right next to a small petting zoo and fairground.  As we explored the grounds today, we got to meet a camel, feed some ducks, and learn some Norwegian routefinding skills as Bjorn led us through a maze of pine trees.
Tomorrow we’ll begin our acclimatization process as we begin to ascend Ixtaccihuatl.  We’re hoping to summit the day after tomorrow, so keep your fingers crossed for good conditions.
Much love to all,

Getting ready for some climb

2.reisebrev 14.10.2010:

Hola amigos!

Greetings from high camp on Ixta, where we're busy preparing for tonight's summit attempt. It's been a wonderful past few days: we spent last night in a climber's hut at 4000 meters, and today we climbed to our high camp at 4600 meters. It's already a new high point for several members of our group, and we're hoping to make those even higher tonight!

After our summit attempt tomorrow, we'll be descending all the way back to Amecameca for a hot meal and a shower before traveling toward our next goal: Orizaba!

Wish us luck tonight! Much love to all.

3.reisebrev 17.10.2010:

Buenas noches, amigas!

Greetings from the town of Puebla, where our team is recovering from a successful summit of Ixta!

The summit morning went very smoothly.  We started walking at 2AM, and despite very cold and windy conditions, eight out of nine climbers reached the summit at 8:30.  After taking some photos on the summit, we enjoyed the sunshine as we descended via a different route.  The hike from high camp back to the van was exhausting, but by late afternoon we were enjoying hamburgers at our hotel.

This morning we caught up on some sleep, then drove to the town of Puebla.  We spent the afternoon exploring the picturesque town, shopping for artisan crafts (including the purchase of a sombrero!), and enjoying a late dinner of local cuisine.  Tomorrow we'll drive to our high camp on Orizaba, and early the next morning we'll begin our attempt on our second summit!

4.reisebrev (18.10.2010)

Two days ago, we drove from the town of Puebla to a small town near Orizaba, where we loaded the group onto 4X4 trucks for the two-hour drive to high camp.  We spent the afternoon enjoying some fantastic local cuisine and preparing our equipment for our summit push.  We started climbing yesterday morning at 2AM, and after enjoying a fantastic sunrise, we reached the summit at 8:15.  We were back at high camp by mid-morning, and were relaxing back in Puebla by dinnertime yesterday.  (During last night's post-climb celebrations, there was even a new drink invented for the occasion: the "Orizaba"!)

This morning we're catching up on some sleep, and this afternoon we'll be transferring back to Mexico City.  It's been a whirlwind of a trip, but I think everyone has had a wonderful time.  The group is very strong, and we've been so impressed with their optimism, humor, and style.   I only wish I could watch our nine Norwegians try to get their newly-purchased sombreros through security at the airport!

Scarpa kurs

7.juni 2010

Slogen (1564 m) i Sunnmørsalpene
